Edmunds Central School's new superintendent and K-12 principal Kevin Kunz is preparing for the first day of school on August 23.

He is also looking forward to getting to know everyone in the area. He said he came to Edmunds Central School because he is attracted by the smaller classes and getting to know the students.

Previously Kunz was the Superintendent and 6-12 Principal in Freeman. He took over from Don Hotchkiss, who some locals may remember as a former Ipswich teacher and coach.

Kunz is a native of Parker. He graduated from high school there and then he graduated from Mount Marty in Yankton. He also played college baseball there.

Mr. Kunz's first teaching job was in Menno. He taught high school math for five years there. Then he taught math and science in the Alcester/Hudson School. He was also working on his Masters' Degree.

Kunz and his wife Becky have a two-year old son, Audrick. Their second son will arrive soon, Kunz said.

Becky was an early elementary teacher in Freeman. She will be the Title I teacher in Edmunds Central after her maternity leave.

Kunz said he has coached about everything, primarily football and basketball.

With two young sons he won't have much "spare" time. But he still likes to make time for amateur baseball and golf.
