We have been receiving letters that are quite lengthy, so I believe it necessary to set a word count guideline also. Looking for ideas from other sites I found suggestions of 150 to 250 words.     The North Central track and field boys and girls teams earned championships at the Eureka Legion Meet on May 4 at Eureka. The girls team had 177.5 points, followed by Lemmon with 92.5. Lindsey Geier was first in two events: Long Jump, 15-0 and Triple Jump, 34-7.5. Peyton Schnabel earned a championship in Pole Vault at 8-0. The NC girls also got a win in the 4x200 Relay at 1:55.74.     The North Central track and field boys and girls team earned championships at the YTC Meet on April 25 at Eureka. Timothy Rucker was first in the 110m Hurdles at 21.69 and 300m Hurdles in 49.83. He also was the champ in the Triple Jump, 38-5.5 and High Jump at 5-6. Kobe Wherry earned two first place wins: Javelin 119-8 and Pole Vault 10-0. Raynor Sprague was first in the 400 Meters at 54.40.     The Ipswich Track and Field team competed at the Rob Luecke Invitational in Groton on Tuesday, April 23. The Ipswich boys were second to Milbank, 177.5 then 87 points. The IHS girls were sixth in a field of 16 teams. Milbank was also the girls champions. Among the boys’ wins was a first place for the 4x200 Relay at 1:36.85. Team members were Brody Davis, Kyle Hettich, Casey Geditz and Trevor Heinz. Heinz also won the Long Jump with a 21-00.50 leap. The girls had their share of ribbons also.     Ipswich-Bowdle wrestler Sophia Knittel placed second in the Girls Division of the State Wrestling Tournament last week in Sioux Falls. Sophia, an IHS seventh grader, was the only 7th grader in her bracket - G126. I-B wrestling coach Robbie Williams said Sophia was one of just two seventh grade wrestlers to make the championship match. Sophia's first win was by fall over Allison Neitzel of Aberdeen Central.   • Law Enforcement Center plans

    The series of meetings to discuss the plans to build a law enforcement center next to the Edmunds County Courthouse in Ipswich began last week. Commissioner Chad Preszler opened the meetings in Ipswich and Roscoe on Nov. 27 and 28. He said Sheriff Jonathan Waldner has had challenges in the office since the jail closed in November 2022. The County Commission has been discussing building a new jail, but they wanted public input.     The Edmunds County Jail has been closed since November 2022 when the Sheriff’s Office was relocated to the Community Room in the Courthouse. Edmunds County Sheriff Jonathan Waldner has proposed building a law enforcement center, including a jail, dispatch center and Sheriff’s office.     The Edmunds Central School District election on November 7 was close. With only a 20.3 percent voter turnout, “No” had 64 votes and “Yes” 61 votes. The voters were asked to decide if the School District should dissolve the current district system and make each seat an "at-large" seat for which anyone living in the district would be eligible. The "No" vote meant there will be no change in the current School Board make-up.     Ipswich librarian Ruby Bosanko will check out her last book on October 31, her retirement day. Ruby has seen plenty of changes in the Marcus P. Beebe Library during the 30+ years she has been the head librarian. Of course the biggest change has been the addition of computers and wifi.     Despite the rainy weather, walkers came from across the country for the Prairie Wanderers Volkssport Club event in Ipswich on Friday, Sept. 22. There were 27 walkers signed in for the Ipswich 5K (3.1 miles). There were two routes around town, starting at the picnic shelter in Charles Collier Memorial Park.     The Whitestone Hill Healing Ride riders will be stopping in Ipswich on Thursday, Aug. 31. The riders are on their way to Whitestone Hill State Historic Site, located 23 miles southeast of Kulm, North Dakota. The Healing Ride commemorates the Sept. 3, 1863 battle when the U.S. Army led by Brigadier General Alfred Sully attacked a Native American encampment at Whitestone Hill.     The North Central JV football team got a homecoming win on Aug. 25 in Eureka. The Thunder stopped McLaughlin 50-8 to celebrate Edmunds Central’s homecoming week. Jade Jacobs had a big half for the Thunder. He had a seven yard run, adding the extra point, to begin the scoring, 8-0.     Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrated the Ipswich church's centennial on Sunday, July 16. The service was held in Zion's worship home in the Schriver Funeral Home.     Ipswich residents filled the newly-remodelled City office on Monday evening, March 20 to learn more about the City Council storm sewer project. Mayor LeRoy Kilber and Joe Whitlock with Stockwell Engineers of Sioux Falls spoke on the Drainage and Storm Sewer project the city has taken on. The project is planned in five phases.     Little did Leland and Tracy Treichel know that their lives would change in August 2022. Leland did not feel well and his legs were shaky on August 16 so they went to Sanford Urgent Care in Aberdeen. They did tests but could not diagnose the problem.     The Ipswich City Council met Monday, Aug. 22 and continued their discussion on the Stockwell Engineering proposal to improve the storm sewer system in town. A resolution to accept the funding for the first proposal of storm sewer improvements was examined by the council members.     After the several downpours this summer flooding in sections of Ipswich became a problem. Members of the Ipswich City Council are looking for ways to alleviate the problem in the future. A drainage study was done by Stockwell Engineers of Sioux Falls. Recommendations were made to improve the drainage in Ipswich.     Father Tim Cone began serving the Holy Cross Catholic Parish on July 1, 2022. Fr. Cone was born in Fayetteville, N.C. but grew up in Rapid City.
