June Weather Summaries

June is our highest precipitation month at an average 3.59. It would be nice to expect this amount each June but it doesn’t happen this way as all of you know. For example, Ipswich has only received 1.33 thus far during June, 2022 which is not even half of 3.59. So where does the average of 3.59 come from? It comes from the 20 months of June out of 47 that has exceeded the average as it builds up.

Last week I mentioned six months of June that had extreme rainfall. I will continue this week with five more:

2005: Abundant precip. spread out over the whole month of 5.86 from 11 rain events with the most coming from a thunderstorm on the 11th of 1.38 – High winds in a thunderstorm on the 8th caused some damage in Ipswich and the surrounding area – Fairly dry July allowed soil conditions to absorb the moisture.

2008: Precip. above average at 4.59 but most came in the first 11 days of the month (3.83) leaving the last half fairly dry – Five of the rain events included hail in the area with some crop damage - Wet July will follow.

2009: Abundant moisture at 6.11 with most coming on the 15 and 16 (3.07 and 1.24) – Eleven rain events in all – Oddity of the two rain events mentioned there was the lack of strong winds – Wet July to follow.

2011: High precip. month of 6.30 from 10 rain events – Over half of this total came from 1.34 on the 14th and a massive downpour of 3.74 on the 21st – Fairly dry July to follow.

2014: The most June moisture that I have ever recorded – 7.03 from 13 rain events – Rains were spread out over the whole month with the most on the 27th and 28th which totaled 2.53 – Another good rain occurred on the 18th that measured 1.93 – Dry July to follow of .15 but wet again in August at 6.28.
