Volleyball team 1-1 last week

Ipswich went on the road for two high school volleyball matches last week and came away with a split, losing their first match to Groton 3-1 on Tuesday and bouncing back for a 3-0 win over Waubay/Summit two nights later (25-11,25-8, 25-15).

Versus Groton, Ipswich was led in hitting by Gracie Lange with 15 kills and a 36- 45 hitting night, followed by Baylee Kulesa with nine kills and a total 30-35 hitting evening. Altogether Ipswich utilized 26 team kills. They were 92-116 in total hits. Quincy Olivier led her team in assists with 24 of the team's 25 assists. Kulesa added the other assist.

Ipswich included seven aces among its 65 accurate serves. Vanesa Diaz had three aces, followed by Kulesa and Lange with two each.

Defensively Ipswich came up with 61 digs led by Kulesa with 18 and Madison Geditz with 13 followed by Lange also in double-figures with 10. Ipswich added six assisted blocks led by Kulesa and Marley Guthmiller with two each.

Things went better vs. Waublay/Summit. Lange again led Ipswich with 13 kills and she went 20-23 overall at the net. Kulesa and Diaz were each next with four kills apiece. Ipswich totaled 29 kills in their 52-65 attack.

The setting effort was paced by Olivier with 14 assists and Ipswich totaled 17 assists with Kulesa adding two of them and Geditz the other.

Meanwhile Kulesa finished 13-13 at the service line with two aces and Lange went 17-18 with five aces. But Olivier had the most aces with six of them and was 24-25 overall at the line. Altogether Ipswich included 13 total aces and was 62-66 at that line.

Ipswich had 33 digs, led by Geditz with nine, Lange with eight and Kulesa and Olivier with six apiece.

The Tiger girls were to host Sully Buttes on September 6 and then travel to Sunshine Bible Academy on September 8. They will further attend a Mobridge-Pollock Invitational tourney on September 10 and will host Warner on the 13th.
