Tigers topped by Trojans

Faulkton claimed a Lake Region Conference 3-0 varsity volleyball win over Ipswich last Tuesday in Faulkton.

The individual set scores were indeed all in favor of the Trojans -- 25-17, 25-15 and 25-8.

Ipswich was unofficially 24-44 in its net attack that included 18 kills. It was led by Marley Guthmiller at 22-25 with nine kills. And Gabby Wald added a 17-24 three-kills evening. But Faulkton was 79-90 in hitting with 33 kills led by Addison Melius at 28-32 with 13 kills.

The eventual winners also did OK at the serving line including seven aces among their 74 accurate serves. Ipswich went 24-28 there with two aces of its own, one by Guthmiller and the other by Jaydin Stiles.

Ipswich was 109-112 in its setting effort that featured 19 assists. Reaghan Bowers was 56-57 with 13 assists and Josie Knutson finished 31-31 with four assists.

Defensively the Tigers were led in digging by Guthmiller with eight digs and Wald with six.

The Tigers played in the Potter Co. Tournament in Gettysburg on Saturday, Oct. 7 and in Mobridge on Monday. IHS will host Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday and then Leola/Frederick Area on Monday, Oct. 16. Then Tuesday, Oct. 17 the Tigers will play Aberdeen Christian on the road.
