A North Central girls' varsity basketball team edged Ipswich 42-35 on Tuesday, Dec. 12 during Lake Region Conference action in Ipswich.

The Thunder had led 10-7 after a quarter and narrowly led 20-18 at intermission. They then forged ahead 34-24 with a quarter left to play. But Ipswich would make a fourth-quarter run capped by a Tristan Geditz trey to claw to within three points at 38-35.

But the Thunder responded with four unanswered points of their own to seal a victory. One reason for the win would be Ella Batie with a game high 13 points and she also grabbed 11 rebounds for another double-double. Next were Jenisa Jacobs and Alaina Dosch with 10 points each and Dosch featured a pair of treys.

Amree VanderVorst added seven points including their other trey and Ashton Heyne scored two points in a relief role.

The Thunder had 16 field goals including those three treys and were 7-14 in free throw attempts. They grabbed 40 rebounds and sustained 16 turnovers.

Ipswich had balanced scoring, including one double-figure scorer in the person of Tristan Geditz with 10 points including that trey. Next was Gabby Wald with eight points including two treys and Marley Guthmiller added seven points. Natalie Crissman added four points and Kaylin Onken, Anna Nierman and Brianna Geditz each scored two points.

The Tigers made 14 field goals including their trio of treys, but were only 4-13 in free throw shooting. They had 43 rebounds, though and were led by Tristan Geditz's 11 boards for a double-double of her own. Onken added seven rebounds. The Tigers committed only 12 turnovers, another bright spot of their night.

The Ipswich Tiger boys varsity basketball team gradually pulled out to a convincing 63-48 Lake Region Conference win over the NC Thunder on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in Ipswich.

The Tigers had only led 12-11 after a quarter but narrowly upped that to 27-18 at intermission. They exploded out to a 52-30 third quarter lead and coasted down the stretch.

It would certainly be a night  to remember for Ipswich's Jace Konsor. He ended up with 30 points and included five treys. He also dished out six  assists and got seven steals. Trevor Heinz would add nine points including a trey.

And Chet Peterson and Jaxon Holt each tallied eight points. (Holt included two treys.)

Xavier Kadlec scored four points and Kyle Hettich and Brody Davis each added two points.

The Tigers had 24 floor shots including those eight treys and were 7-12 in free throws.

Unofficially the Thunder countered with 14 points from Raynor Sprague including two treys. Tim Rucker also got into double-figures with 10 points.

Cooper Oxner got six points on two treys and Brady Beitelspacher and Dawson Walz each scored four points. Brady Beitelspacher included a trey, as did Cole Beitelspacher with his three points. Zane Haar also get three points on a trey and Koby Wherry added two points.

The Thunder were able to make 16 baskets that featured seven treys with seven free throws in 14 trips to the line.
