Ipswich split a home-court varsity high school basketball confrontation with Timber Lake last Saturday.

The Tiger boys indeed defeated their visitors 58-40 after the girls had sustained a 45-33 defeat.

In the boys game Ipswich fashioned a 20-4 lead after a quarter and their initial double-figure lead was 15-4. The Panthers would hang around though and actually closed to within nine points midway through the final quarter.

Ipswich had doubled Timber Lake 30-15 at intermission and would then lead 45-31 at the third break.

Jace Konsor spearheaded their attack with 24 points that included six treys. Next would be Trevor Heinz with 17 points and seven assists followed by Chet Peterson with 11 points and five assists including their two remaining treys. Xavier Kadlec added three points for the Tigers.

The Panthers were led by Tristan Dupris with his 10 points and seven more players scored.

Ipswich netted 23 total field goals in 51 tries including those eight treys. But they were only able to finish 3-12 in free throws. The visiting team countered with 13 baskets including four treys. They were a much warmer 10-13 in their trips to the free throw stripes.

Ipswich utilized 41 rebounds led by Peterson with 11 boards for a double-double. Timber Lake only grabbed 29 rebounds led by Kelly Bollinger with five of them. Timber Lake sustained 12 turnovers and Ipswich only eight in a well-played floor game by both schools and 10 of those were Tiger steals.

The TL girls meanwhile were led by Kendyl Locken with 17 points and nine rebounds followed by Natalie Lawrence with 12 counters. Seven total players would enter their scorebook that afternoon. Ipswich answered with 14 points by Gabby Wald and she included two treys. Anna Nierman added nine points followed by Marley Guthmiller with eight points and Kaylin Onken with her two points.

Ipswich would trail 15-9 at the first-quarter break and was also doubled 12-6 in the second quarter. But Ipswich would then outscore its visitors 11-7 in the third stanza.

The Panthers shot 16-44 in total baskets that featured three treys and were a warm 10-12 in free throw attempts. Ipswich responded with a 11-47 floor-shooting afternoon that featured those two treys and were an even hotter 9-9 in their free throw tries.

Ipswich was out-rebounded 38 to 26 but was led by Karlie Gohl and Onken with five boards apiece. Ipswich only committed 12 turnovers and TL, 19, one of the bright spots for the Tiger girls. (And nine of the Panthers miscues were Tiger steals led by Wald's three thefts.)

The Tiger girls and boys will have a doubleheader game at Warner on Thursday, Jan. 4. The boys play Sully Buttes on the road on Jan. 9.
