Tigers fall to Trojans in doubleheader action

Ipswich lost a girls/boys varsity doubleheader at Faulkton last Friday that was a conference affair. The hosts' girls would outlast Ipswich 45-31 and their boys would edge their Tiger counterparts 48-41.

Ipswich actually led Faulkton for portions of both games. The Tiger girls jumped ahead 9-6 in the opening quarter and then trailed 26-14 at intermission. The hosts would only increase their lead to 37-24 with a quarter to play.

The Trojan girls were led by Kelli Stoeker with 15 points and Carley Cotton also got into double-figures with 13 points and four more Trojans would score at least one point.

Ipswich, meanwhile, was led by Kaylin Onken with her 10 points. Anna Nierman was next with seven points that included a trey. Brianna Geditz added four points all on free throws. Jalyssa Hutson, Rylee Kleffman and LaVaya Russell each added a trey. Karla Gohl would add one free throw.


The hosts were able to utilize a 17-62 floor shot effort that included four treys. They added seven free throws in 20 tries. Ipswich countered with nine field goals in 42 total attempts that included those four treys and went 9-12 in their free throw tries.

Ipswich had 27 rebounds led by Tristan Geditz with nine of them and Faulkton countered with 33 rebounds led by Cotton with eight. Ipswich would sustain 34 turnovers; Faulkton, 25. But the Tiger girls would have 14 steals led by Brianna Geditz with five thefts and Tristan Geditz with three of them.

The Ipswich boys outcome was sort of a tale of two halves. The Tigers would lead 10-6 after a quarter and then grabbed a 19-14 halftime edge after leading by as many as 10 points at 19-9. But Faulkton would lead 31-27 at the third-quarter break and increased that to the final seven-point margin.

The hosts got two double-figure scorers including Layne Cotton with 14 points and Gian DiMaria, 13 points. They added four more scorers. They were able to total 18 field goals that included three treys and were 9-19 at the charity stripes.

The Tigers finished with three double-figure scorers led by Jace Konsor with 13 points including one trey. Chet Peterson added 10 points and Trevor Heinz had 9 points with one trey. Jaxon Holt had one trey for his three points. Tucker Kadlec also had three, followed by Xavier Kadlec with two points. Kyle Hettich added a free throw.

Ipswich was able to make 15 baskets including its treys and was 8-13 in free throws.

Faulkton collected 34 rebounds led by Cotton with 18 rebounds for a double-double and Peterson also had a double-double for Ipswich that featured his 10 points and 10 rebounds. (Ipswich totaled 37 rebounds.)

Ipswich had 18 turnovers; Faulkton, 15. But Heinz had four of Ipswich's nine steals.

The IHS girls will go on the road to play Herreid/Selby Area on Friday, Jan. 26 in Selby. They will host Leola/Frederick Area on Jan. 30.

The Ipswich boys will host Herreid/Selby Area on Thursday, Jan. 25. Highmore-Harrold boys will come to the Tiger Den on Saturday, Jan. 27.
