Back-to-back wins for Ipswich girls

The Ipswich girls varsity basketball team obtained back-to-back wins last weekend. They indeed topped Waverly-South Shore 43-29 on Saturday during Warner's Classic after edging Sunshine Bible Academy at home on Friday by a 53 to 44 verdict.

They played well defensively vs. WSS. They would lead 9-5 after a quarter and then be ahead 24-14 at halftime. They increased their advantage to 34-18 after three quarters and coasted to a victory.

The Tigers used some balanced scoring led by Jalyssa Hutson with her nine points including a trey. Kaylin Onken also tallied nine points, followed by Brianna Geditz with eight points. Marley Guthmiller would add six points followed by Rylee Kleffman with five points featuring one trey. Tristan Geditz had three points and Anna Nierman contributed two points followed by LaVayah Russell with a free throw.

Their opponents were limited to eight points each by Carlee Mushitz and Emily Heuer. They had five more scorers. They finished with 12 baskets including their treys and were 5-8 in free throws. Ipswich had 15 two-point baskets plus two treys and went 7-14 in their free throw tries.


Ipswich had 38 rebounds led by Tristan Geditz with 11. Waverly-South Shore obtained 16 rebounds. They had 23 turnovers and Ipswich only 19 turnovers. But Ipswich had 13 steals, led by Tristan Geditz with five. She also distributed seven of their 17 assists.

Against SBA things had been a little more difficult for the Tigers but they would definitely get the job done.

The score was actually tied at halftime at 20-20 after Ipswich had taken a narrow 9-8 first-quarter lead. But Ipswich was then able to outscore the Crusaders 16-13 in the third quarter and things even got a little better in the final stanza.

Ipswich was led by Bri Geditz with 16 points including one trey. Next would be Kaylin Onken with 13 points and Marley Guthmiller also reached double-scoring with her 12 points.

Next was Anna Nierman with five points and Jalyssa Hutson added four points. Tristan Geditz had three points.

The Tigers made 18 baskets including that trey and were 16-32 in free throw shooting. The visitors totaled 15 baskets with 14 free throws. They grabbed 39 rebounds led by Annaliese Van Zee with eight and she also led them in scoring with 14 counters. Next would be Abby Hinman with 11 points and four more SBA players would score.

Ipswich sustained 20 turnovers and SBA, 21, so that department was fairly equal.

Ipswich did have 12 steals which helped offset their miscues.
