Ipswich hosted a girls/ boys Lake Region Conference twinbill in Ipswich vs. Aberdeen Christian with split results on Feb. 6. The IHS varsity girls would indeed defeat their rivals from Aberdeen by a final 40-24 verdict, but the AC Knights boys hang on for an eventual 67-63 verdict.

Lake Region Conference confrontations often turn out to be a defensive struggle and that was certainly true of the girls game. Especially after the opening quarter when Ipswich would escape with a 17-5 lead!

The second quarter would narrowly be won by Ipswich 4-2 for a 21-7 Tiger lead. The third quarter then ended up in a 6-6 standoff giving Ipswich its 27-13 lead with a quarter to play.

Ipswich obtained 10 points from Jalyssa Hutson who included three treys. Next would be Marley Guthmiller and Anna Nierman with their nine points. Karlie Gohl added a trey for three points as did Bri Geditz. And Tristan Geditz, LaVayah Russell and Kaylin Onken all scored two points.

The visitors were led by Jolie Fogerty with her eight points followed by Chloe Bosma with seven points and Sophia Fogerty with six points. Chloe Holt added three points to their cause.

The Knights made 11 total field goals that included one trey and they were 1-4 in free throw tries. Ipswich countered with 15 accurate baskets including those treys and were 5-7 in free throws opportunities.

The Tigers grabbed 37 rebounds paced by Onken with nine and the visitors had 36 led by Sofia Fogerty with seven. The Knights sustained 22 turnovers and Ipswich 19. But Nierman led Ipswich with four steals. The whole team had 14 thefts.

The boys game was definitely entertaining to say the least. The Tigers indeed made a late run to close to within one possession, but the visitors regrouped and the game clock certainly became their ally.

The Knights had faced an early 8-0 deficit but would lead 17-11 at the first quarter break. They stretched that lead to 34-25 at halftime and would still lead 49-41 with a quarter to play. That's when things got really interesting.

One Tiger highlight was 13 treys including eight by Jace Konsor which apparently tied a school record. He totaled 24 points. Chet Peterson was next with 12 points including one trey. Trevor Heinz also got into double figures with his 10 points that also featured three treys. Kyle Hettich added seven points including a trey and Xavier Kadlec was next with four points, followed by Tucker Kadlec with three points. (Konsor would also distribute seven of Ipswich's 18 assists.

The Knights would be led by Becker Bosma's 24 points that featured five treys and Joey Johnson's 18 points. Brooks Jett scored 11 points and Elllis Russell was next with his double-figure evening of 10 points.

The Tigers would claim 21 rebounds led by Peterson's seven boards and the Knights grabbed 29 rebounds led by Johnson's seven. Aberdeen Christian had 11 turnovers and Ipswich 12. Peterson collected two of Ipswich's four steals.
