Dwayne Leboldus

 

Dwayne M. Leboldus, 79, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, led by Father Timothy Cone. Interment followed at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Onaka, with military graveside rites by the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven.

Dwayne Michael Leboldus, son of Mary (Stappler) and Mike Leboldus, was born at Hoven on January 25, 1945. He was brought up northeast of Onaka. He attended Roscoe Public School, graduating with the RHS Class of 1963. He furthered his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen. Dwayne married Judie Schoonover at Onaka on August 11, 1966. They first settled on the Leboldus farm. When Dwayne was called up in the Army National Guard, they moved to Washington. Upon his discharge, they returned to the farm.

In the late 1990's Dwayne retired and settled in Custer. Due to declining health, Dwayne moved closer to family and lived at the Morgan Lane Assisted Living in Tea. He moved to the Estelline Center in February 2023.

Dwayne was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Onaka, the Onaka Trap Shooting Club, and the Leboldus-Deis American Legion Post No. 270, Onaka. He also served on the Roscoe School Board in the 1980's and the Edmunds County Soil Conservation District Board. Dwayne enjoyed hunting and talking farming over a cup of coffee.

Dwayne is survived by one daughter, Karen (Jason) Peterson of Sioux Falls; his former wife, Judie; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike, on May 1, 2006; his mother, Mary, on June 6, 2002; one son, Chad Leboldus; one brother, Raymond Kraft; and three sisters, Marietta Stewart and two infants.

Honorary bearers were Dwayne's grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Dwayne's son-in-law, Jason; and step grandsons, Dylan Peterson, Logan Peterson and Carter Peterson of Sioux Falls.
