  • Railroad crossing repair work to close Highway 45 in Ipswich today

    The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Company (BNSF) will begin railroad crossing repair work on S.D. Highway 45, in Ipswich, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023. The railroad crossing repair operations will close Highway 45. No detour is available. The expected completion date for the project is Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023. Motorists should be aware that S.D. Highway 47 is currently closed due to reconstruction work and should not be used as an alternate route. Motorists will need to find alternate routes to access both U.S. Highway 12 and S.D....

    Edmunds Central student Theo Haerter and science teacher Spencer Cody toured the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California, during a week-long NASA/IPAC Teacher Research Program (NITARP) project development workshop held at Caltech the last week of July.     Barbara Lee Gibbs, age 72, of Ipswich, SD passed away Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Aberdeen Health and Rehab in Aberdeen after battling cancer. Barbara was born on August 10, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey to James and Thelma (Newell) Chew. She married Ralph Louis Gibbs on October 14, 1989. A year later, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Diana Marie Gibbs. In 2019, Ralph and Barbara moved from Cocoa, Fla. to Ipswich to be closer to their daughter.     This year's Ipswich varsity football team will currently have 21 players with only three seniors. But they include Kadyn Weisser, Trevor Heinz and Chet Peterson, three names that fans should definitely recognize.     South Dakota youth had a strong showing at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships, including third place for the team sweepstakes award. The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships were held June 25-30 in Grand Island, Nebraska, and had 718 youth representing 42 states.
