Boys and girls champions at Tiger Invite

IHS girls off to a good start.

History repeats itself! Just as last year, the Ipswich varsity cross country program swept its own invitational meet last Saturday at Split Rock Country Club. Both the IHS girls and boys ran well, especially the Lady Tigers, who featured their three scoring runners with a perfect 1-2-3 6-point score to outpoint runner-up Miller with 18 points.

Indeed Lady Tiger senior Aleah Steger crossed the finish line first in 19:10.66, followed by Tessa Kilber in second at 20:06.36 and Emily DeRaad, third in 20:38.65. The fourth IHS runner, Kari Kanable another senior, also medaled with a seventh-place effort at 22:24.82.

On the boys' side, Ipswich's top finisher proved to be Maxwell Geditz, running in second at 17:29.71, behind the champion Dylan Mollman of McIntosh, clocked in 17:17.66. Ipswich senior Ben Kulesa was fourth in 18:16.77, followed by Taylor Thorson 13th in 19:23.71 and Evan Onken 17th in 19:35.88.

The IHS Tiger boys scored 11 points as a team and their Tiger counterparts from Mobridge-Pollock were second with 17 team points.

Meanwhile in the girls junior varsity results, Ipswich's Ashley Ptacek was third in 16:58.95 and Abby Olson, sixth in 17:15.97. Chloe Jager was 12th in 19:23.07, followed by Kelsie Olson, 16th in 20:42.62. The Lady Tigers' additional JV outcomes were provided by Makala DeRaad 21st in 21:44.50, Gabriela Mendonca, 22nd in 23.51.64 and Lily Gaston, 23rd in 25:16.62.

Ipswich entered a lone runner, Dylan Owens in the boys' JV event and he placed first in a field of 23 entrants, clocked at 15:15.22.

Ipswich enrolled three girls in the middle-school competition, led by Kaylin Onken in seventh at 13:26.71. Sommer DeRaad was tenth at 13:52.42 and Savannah Coisman 26th in 16:05.30. In the middle-school boys' outcome, Ipswich was led by Turner Thorson's 11:16.67 first-place effort. Also credit Xavier Kadlec with a ninth-place outcome in 12:49.96 and Dylan Wald, tenth in 13:01.94.

Ipswich will next attend a Potter County invite on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. in Gettysburg.
