Marley Guthmiller battles for possession in Region play.
The Ipswich Tigers participated in two recent Region 6B girls basketball playoffs, winning their opener in Ipswich last Monday by a 44-32 verdict and then were defeated the next night at Lyman in a 64-25 outcome.
First things first! Ipswich gradually pulled away from its opening night visitors from SBA. The first half was quite close. The Crusaders actually led 8-7 after the first quarter and each team scored eight points in the second quarter. But Ipswich would lead 30-23 with a quarter to play and grabbed its first double-figure lead 34-23 courtesy of Jalyssa Hutson.
The Tigers would be led in scoring by Marley Guthmillers's 12 points, followed closely by Gabby Wald with her 11 points including one trey. Tristan Geditz was next with six points.Then Hutson, Karlie Gohl and Rylee Kleffman each tallied four points and Kleffman included a trey. Anna Nierman added two points and Brianna Geditz a free throw.
Sunshine Bible Academy was led by Betra Amare with 10 points and four more players scored. They were able to connect on 11 accurate two-point floor shots and 10 free throws, The Tigers were 14-31 in deuces and 2-12 in treys plus 10 free throws as well.
The Tigers collected 35 rebounds led by Tristan Geditz with 11 of them and Marley Guthmiller with eight boards. The Crusaders countered with 36 rebounds. They had 28 turnovers and Ipswich, 24.
Versus Lyman the Tigers would trail 11-3 after a quarter and would then fall behind 27-12 at intermission. But the Raiders then got even more separation with a 26-5 third-quarter edge and would easily coast to their convincing victory.
They were led by Brooke Palmer with 21 points and they had three more scorers into double-figure territory. They made three treys and 19 two-pointers plus 17 accurate free throws. Ipswich countered with 11 floor shots that would include Gabby Wald's two treys. They added one free throw.
The hosts utilized 29 rebounds and Ipswich, 26. Kaylin Onken included four free throws for the Tigers that night. Ipswich had 31 turnovers and Lyman only 17 miscues.
Karlie Gohl was the Tigers' lone senior.
