Halle Heinz fights for possession of the ball.

Records are made to be broken and the Ipswich School school record for single-game treys was shattered by Halle Heinz during a 67-48 Lake Region Conference girls' high school basketball win over Northwestern here last Tuesday.

Altogether Halle netted five of those treys in the opening quarter, helping create a 17-12 Lady Tigers' first-quarter edge. She added another five throughout the game, capped by her tenth at 1:52 of the final quarter for a 65-42 IHS lead at that juncture of the game. (Ipswich had led 35-23 at intermission and 50-34 with a quarter to play.)

The old school record for three-balls, six treys, was set by Marcy Weber in 1996. And in the state? "Halle Heinz's 10 three pointers (in a game) ties her for fourth all-time with Jill Young of Mitchell Christian 2004 and Carly Granum of Sioux Valley 2016. The record is 12 by Ashley Ross of Crow Creek in 2005," says coach Brian Hogie.

You might have correctly guessed that Halle Heinz was the game's leading scorer and you would be correct. She finished with 34 points, while her sister Kamryn added 19 points. Abby Grabowska also achieved double-figure scoring capability with a 10-point evening, featuring her team's remaining trey. She was also the game-high rebounder with 11 for a double-double. Furthermore, she dished out four assists.

Aleah Steger and Tessa Kilber completed the IHS scoring ledger with two points each.

Northwestern utilized a balanced scoring effort, led by Caitlyn Fischbach with 14 points and Hannah Schentzel added 12 counters. Five other Wildcats scored.

Ipswich shot 22-49 from the floor including those 11 treys and was a warm 12-14 at the free throw line. The visitors were 19-51 in floor shots, all from within the trey arc and they shot 10-19 at the line.

Ipswich again handled the basketball rather impressively with five turnovers on the night. And Northwestern only committed six itself in a well-played floor game by both schools.

The IHS girls' varsity, now 6-2, will travel to Faulkton on Thursday, Jan. 17 for a girls/boys twinbill, Lake Region Conference affairs. There will be another girls/boys doubleheader on January 19 vs. James Valley Christian in Huron. The girls and boys will be on the road again on January 22 in yet another g/b twinbill hosted by Edmunds Central in Roscoe.
