Ipswich swept a recent high school track and field invite at Eureka on April 23. The IHS girls overwhelmed runner-up Potter County 221-99 and the Tiger boys outlasted second-place Warner 154-131. (Nine teams scored points in each division!)

“It was a windy day, but we made it a high volume day,” said IHS coach Todd Thorson. “They really competed hard.” And the outcome was some brand new state-qualified events, featuring both state-qualifying shot put and discus throwing championships from Kamryn Heinz at 36-00.00 and 113-00.00, respectively. Two qualifications were in boys’ events from Max Geditz in the high jump and Reece Moehlenbrink in the shot put.

Girls first! They helped fuel their team victory with all five relay wins, plus no fewer than six placements in the pole vault alone, led by Izabella McQuarie’s 8-09.00 winning height. That was a state qualifier, as was Taylor Maurer’s second at 8-03.00 and Mckenzie Evans’ third at 8-03.00.

Tessa Kilber also carved out a 2:36.85 800-meter run win and Aleah Steger accomplished a 3,200-meter run victory in 12:48.62.

Those girls’ relay clockings? Ipswich won the 4x100 in :53.11 (Bailey Hammrich, Taylor Maurer, Abby Grabowska, Lily Gaston), the 4x200 in 1:59.87 (Kendra Osborne, Bailey Hammrich, Ashlyn Weig, Halle Heinz), the sprint medley in 4:49.53, (Kendra Osborne, Bailey Hammrich, Halle Heinz, Aleah Steger), the 3,200 in 10:40.00 (Tessa Kilber, Aleah Steger, Ashley Ptacek, Emily DeRaad) and to cap the day the 4x400 in 4:26.59 (Tessa Kilber, Abby Grabowska, Bailey Hammrich, Taylor Maurer).

The boys’ margin for error was a little smaller, but they were still able to piece together three relay wins! They included the 4x100 meter relay in :47.11 (Ty Kadlec, William Kadlec, Matt Hettich, Carson Simes), the 4x200 in 1:40.40 (Ty Kadlec, William Kadlec, Matt Hettich, Carson Simes) and the 4x400 in 3:40.91 (Maxwell Geditz, Riley Nehlich, William Kadlec, Ben Kulesa).

Maxwell Geditz was able to obtain that winning and state-qualifying high jump effort at 6-02 and he threw in a winning 300-meter hurdles clocking of :46.55 for good measure. (Ipswich went 1-2-3 and 6 in that event.)

Meanwhile, Moehlenbrink’s second-place state-qualifying shot put throw landed 46-01.00 from its launching point, only two inches off the winning result.
