Ipswich hosts conference meet last week

Though the Lake Region Conference track and field meet in Ipswich last Tuesday started out in less than optimal weather conditions and ended in downright rain showers, several records and state qualifications were still recorded.

And Ipswich swept the varsity meet in both the girls' and boys' divisions. The Lady Tigers more than doubled runner-up Northwestern Area 245.5 to 106 and the Tiger boys topped second-place Warner by a somewhat lesser margin, 203 to 149. But still very impressive and the sweep obviously put Ipswich in the drivers seat for the combined girls and boys title with Northwestern second!

The IHS thinclads utilized a combination of event wins that included two relay victories in each of the girls' and boys' divisions and overall placement depth.

Lily Gaston won the long jump at 16-06.25. And that was both a new school and meet record for her in the event! But she wasn't through yet, adding a winning 33-07.50 triple jump. Aleah Steger won the 1,600-meter run in 5:32.65, which was a brand new state-qualified event for her. And she added a 3,200-meter run victory, as well, clocked at 12:33.15. (Ipswich's other new individual state-qualification came from Maxwell Geditz with his third-place :52.28 400-meter run effort and he also won the boys' high jump at 5-10.)

The IHS Lady Tigers also utilized a victorious 1:02.85 400-meter dash win by Tessa Kilber and a 9-09 first-place pole vault attempt from Mckenzie Evans. And Ipswich's remaining individual girls' event winner Tuesday? That would be Kamryn Heinz with her 37-11.00 shot put effort.

The pair of Lady Tiger relay championships were from Kendra Osborne, Bailey Hammrich, Abby Grabowska and Ashley Ptacek in the medley at 4:52.22 and the 4x400, won by Emily DeRaad, Abby Grabowska, Bailey Hammrich and Taylor Maurer.

Meanwhile, Ty Kadlec, William Kadlec, Matt Hettich and Carson Simes teamed up to capture the boys' 4x100 and 4x200 in :46.31 and 1:37.20, respectively. Simes added a :11.41 capture of the 100-meter dash. Ben Kulesa won the 200-meter dash in :24.10, while Reece Moehlenbrink added Ipswich's boys remaining first-place effort with a 129-11 discus spin.

Warner swept the LRC middle-school competition, winning both the girls and boys team title and therefore the combined girls/boys standings. Ipswich was third as a team in both instances, as well as third in the combined.
