Ipswich won two high school girls' non-conference volleyball matches last week during the school week, one on the road and then one in the friendly confines of the Tiger Den. And both wins were in straight sets!

The Lady Tigers indeed topped Sully Buttes at Onida 25-22, 25-21 and 25-21 last Tuesday and then two nights later dropped Sunshine Bible Academy 3-0 in Ipswich by a 25-11, 25-19 and 25-16 verdict. In that one, they capped the first set with an eight-point run, started by a Hailey Bierman kill. Ipswich then gradually pulled away in the second set and clinched it courtesy of a Crusaders' serving error. The third set was started by a Halle Heinz service ace and the Lady Tigers added seven more points with Heinz at the line, including another ace for an early 8-0 cushion. Heinz later ended that set and the match with a kill.

Ipswich fueled its balanced attack with a 54 to 31 hitting edge that included a 33-12 kill advantage. Paige Mehlberg led the effort with eight kills and Avery Sylte had seven and Lindsey Grabowska, six. That was all enabled by some efficient setting duties, led by Heinz with 14 assists and Bailey Pitz, 10 assists. Altogether Ipswich came away with 59 sets in 60 tries and featured 25 assists.

Ipswich did OK at the service line as well with a 60-43 lead over the visitors. And 14 of those were aces compared to SBA's four. Heinz landed four aces and Pitz, three to lead the effort .

Defensively, Ipswich came up with 34 digs, led by Chesney Olivier with 11 and Grabowska with five. Ipswich totaled five solo blocks, led by Mehlberg with three.
