Ipswich volleyball on the road last week

Ipswich split a pair of high school volleyball appearances last week, both on the road. The Lady Tigers swept a non-conference 3-0 verdict over Potter County in Hoven last Tuesday, but dropped a Lake Region Conference decision 3-0 at Langford Area two nights later.

At PC, Ipswich won by identical 25-14 counts and then a harder 25-22 third-set win over the hosts. In that one, Ipswich netted 77 hits and 33 of them were by kills, compared to PC’s 17. Ipswich was led there by Hailey Bierman, 18-19 with nine kills, followed Paige Mehlberg, 10-10,7 and Avery Sylte went 23-28, also with seven kills.

That was helped by an 88-90 setting evening for the Lady Tigers, including 33 assists. Halle Heinz was 49-50 in setting with 16 assists and Bailey Pitz, 34-35 with 16 assists.

Ipswich finished 71-78 at the service line with 11 aces, paced by Lindsey Grabowska, 21-22 with five aces. Pitz was 17-18,2, Heinz, 11-13,1 and Chesney Olivier, 10-11,1. Potter County went 51-52 at the line with a lone ace.

Ipswich featured 77 digs, led by Olivier with 24, Grabowska with 21 and Sylte with 12. Mehlberg added two solo blocks and one assisted and Sylte was next with one of each.

In Langford, meanwhile, the hosts wrapped tightly-contested 26-24 set wins around a 25-17 middle-set victory in its sweep of the Lady Tigers.

The Lions were 111-122 at the net with 53 kills, led by Ady Dwight’s 21 kills. Ipswich responded with a 79-96 net attack with 38 kills. Heinz led with 14 kills and was 24-29 overall, followed by Sylte with 10 kills and a 20-25 total.

Ipswich was 90-92 in setting with 37 assists, paced by Pitz with 16 of the assists and Heinz with 15.

Ipswich went 65-68 at the service line with nine aces. Sylte was 17-17 with three aces, Heinz 9-10 also with a trio of aces and Pitz 14-14 with two aces.

Ipswich came up with 71 digs led by Olivier with 28 and Sylte and Heinz with 12 each. Mehlberg added a solo block and an assist and Halie Feldman a solo.
