The Ipswich Tigers girls’ hoops team lost a close Lake Region Conference confrontation to Langford Area last Friday in Ipswich.

The final margin was seven points, 58-51, inflated by a late four-free-throw performance by the visitors.

Ipswich’s last lead had been 49-48 earlier in the final stanza thanks to a Halle Heinz trey. And the Tigers only trailed 52-51 after Kate Geditz’s own pair of free throws.

Ipswich had led 12-11 after a quarter and Langford claimed a 30-24 halftime edge. A decent third quarter pulled the Tigers to within a point, 40-39, at the third break.

Ady Dwight was one reason for the Langford win. She led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. But Chesney Olson was also in double figures with 16 points and Mallory Miller nearly got there with nine points.

Meanwhile, Heinz paced Ipswich with 27 points, including five treys. Bailey Pitz was next with seven points, including one trey. Tessa Kilber scored six points, Geditz four, Katie Bierman three and Hailey Bierman and Halie Feldman two points each.

The taller Lions not too surprisingly edged Ipswich 36-30 in rebounding, but Heinz led a balanced effort with four. Each team had 14 turnovers. Heinz created six of them with steals.

Langford shot 20-53 from the floor and featured a 18-21 free throw night. Ipswich went 19-51 from the floor including the six treys and was 7-9 at the line.
