Fiddlin' Around

Believe it or not, Ground Hog Day is right around the corner and there will probably be about six more weeks of winter regardless of Phil's verdict.

For starters there have been memorable major winter storms during some previous post-season tournaments, but we hope that won't prove to be true this year. The post-season varsity sports season indeed starts in February with wrestling and girls basketball action getting the spotlight, though the high school boys basketball teams won't start their regional action until early in March.

So good luck to the area athletes and congratulations to those of you who have already achieved individual milestones, including season and career records in some cases.

And this is also an election year, including the presidential race and you all know what that means. I'll remind you once more that it is also a leap year with February ending on the 29th not the 28th so the various candidates should definitely take advantage of that rare opportunity -- an extra day to campaign!
