IHS Cross Country competed in Redfield

Ipswich attended a high school XC invite last Thursday in Redfield.

The Tigers put two runners in the girls varsity race won by Milbank’s Ashlyn Batchelor in 16.21. Emily DeRaad placed 23rd in 18.86, followed by Ashley Ptacek 37th in 19.72.

In the varsity boys’ outcome, Milbank’s Nick Batchelor came away the winner in 15.42. Ipswich’s Taylor Thorson was 31st in 18.45.

There were 92 runners in the boys’ event and over 80 entrants among the varsity girls.

There were a slug of IHS girls entering the girls’ JV run, though, and Ipswich made its presence felt there, even though Highmore-Harold’s April Fallis won it in 22.29. Ipswich’s Ashlinn Hartwell wa second in 23.26, followed by Sommer DeRaad fifth in 23.94 and Sienna Kessler sixth in 24.00. For good measure, Gracyn Kadlec placed 11th in 24.26 and Gabrielle Wald was 12th in 24.32, followed by Reaghan Bowers who was 13th in 24.33. Madisyn Gellhaus placed 16th in 24.87 and Makela DeRaad was 27th in 25.97.

There were also more than a couple JV boys including some from Ipswich. (It was won by Herreid-Selby Area’s Matthew Neely in 14.57.)

Xavier Kadlec led Ipswich, placing fifth for the Tigers in 15.30, followed by Turner Thorson seventh in 15.48, as well as Evan Onken and Dylan Wald.

Ipswich middle-school boy runners were Clayton Horst, 16th in 9.31, Tyler Gellhaus 19th in 9.38 and Jon Kintz 35th in 10.30.

Middle-school girls from Ipswich were Anna Nierman 21st in 9.02, Katelyn Tufte 22nd in 9.06, Natalie Crissman 32nd in 9.38, Kearstin Pietz 46th in 11.08 and Bella Unser 49th in 11.17. It was won by Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheid in 7.05. (The boys’ middle-school winning boy was Julian McElhone of Clark/Willow Lake in 8.37.)

The times at the Redfield were in digital format.

The Ipswich Tiger Invite is Saturday, Sept. 12 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
