I/B wrestlers meet new opponents in Arlington

The Ipswich/Bowdle wrestlers competed in the Kingsbury County Invitational on Jan. 23 in Arlington.

Redfield Area won the tourney with 248.5 points, followed by the hosts with 127.5 points. The I/B wrestlers were eighth in the 12-team tourney.

Marley Guthmiller placed first in the girls division. I/B wrestlers Tanner Frickson and Lucas Rowland placed second for the boys.

“Saturday was a very important tournament. We were able to see some region opponents that we have not seen this year,” Coach Todd Naasz said. “We also had the opportunity to wrestle other region opponents for the last time to get seeding criteria before the region tournament.”

“Tanner and Lucas had very good matches in the finals against two really tough opponents,” Naasz said. “I am pleased with the direction our team is going and am getting excited to see them perform at the Region Meet."

The I/B results were:

106 — Lane Miller was pinned 2:54, was pinned :52

113 — Brady Unser won by technical fall 18-3, was pinned 3:23, won by major decision 10-1, lost by major decision 12-3 for fourth place (9.5 points)

132 — Tanner Frickson won 8-1, won 3-2, was pinned 3:57 for second place (14 points)

145 — Adam Kanable was pinned :34, was pinned 1:57

170 — Grant Weisser won by pin 3:58, was pinned 1:41, received a bye, lost 6-4 for fourth place (8 points)

182 — Tyler Tran was pinned 3:05, was pinned 2:41

182 — Kadyn Weisser lost 8-4, won by pin 3:40, was pinned :46 (3 points)

285 — Lucas Rowland won by pin 2:26, won by pin 4:59, lost 3-2 for second place (18 points)

126-Girls — Marley Guthmiller won by pin :59, was pinned 4:50, won by pin 4:35

The Tigers will see action Saturday, Jan. 30 in Groton at 10 a.m. Covid restrictions are unknown at this point. Check with the schools prior to traveling.
