Bailey Pitz (34) runs down the court in the Tigers game in the Tiger Den vs. Miller last week.

Ipswich got good news -- Halle Heinz was suited up for a girls' basketball game and even saw some action vs. Miller here on Thursday. She was medically OKed to play, after missing two games (both won by the Tigers) following a knee injury vs. Herreid/Selby Area on January 29.

But the bad news that night was that Miller emerged victorious over the Lady Tigers by a 20-point 54-34 verdict.

Turnovers seemed to plague the Tigers for one thing. They would end up with 23 miscues, compared to only 11 by the Rustlers. Miller had led 9-7 after a quarter and stretched that to 20-13 at intermission, as Ipswich was still definitely within striking distance at that stage of the game. But the visitors started the third quarter with a 15-point run that was only interrupted by a Halie Feldman trey. And they would still lead 45-21, despite two Katie Bierman free throws to close out that quarter. So the Rustlers were able to coast to their win.

The visitors' scoring attack was led by Tyra Gates with 13 points and Jaden Werdel and Morgan Kolda each scored 10 points. Five additional players scored for the Rustlers. They shot 22-43 from the floor that featured six treys and were 4-9 in free throw tries.

For the Lady Tigers, Katie Bierman would end up with nine points, including a trey. Lindsey Grabowska was a perfect six in free throw tries for her six points. Ipswich also finished with Quincy Olivier's five points. Heinz added four points, followed by Pitz and Feldman each with three points on accurate trey attempts and then Chesney Olivier and Baylee Kulesa with two points apiece.

Ipswich totaled 10 baskets that included those three treys and went 11-11 at the charity stripe for a bright spot in the loss.

Ipswich also won the boards 29-23, led by Katie Bierman's five retrieves.

Ipswich was to play Aberdeen Christian, girls only, on February 9 in Aberdeen, and will join the Tiger boys in hosting Lower Brule on February 11. Then the girls play in the Warner Classic on February 13. The girls will host Highmore-Harrold on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
