Fiddlin' Around

March 17, 2021

This is Sunshine Week and we all would like some sunshine for a few days, especially this year. But that obviously isn't quite what that means. Open government and transparency in our various political entities are what Sunshine Week focuses upon. And that should really be our focus of attention year around, not just one week in March. So take time to read all the legal notices that are in this week's editions of our papers. They are that vital!

But there are a lot of other things going on in March including an upcoming Ag Week and Ag Day, focusing on agriculture. That's particularly important to an agricultural state, such as ours.

OK, I haven't even mentioned basketball yet. But last week I said how teams around here could use a little luck compared to the rest of the state. Little did I predict that Aberdeen Roncalli's girls would indeed manufacture their own luck on the way to their first-ever state tournament championship. They indeed substituted one word for the word luck and that luck if you hadn't heard by now was the word DEFENSE!

And while on the subject of basketball, how about those Northern men, who had won four straight NSIC league tournaments and I think six altogether, the most of any school in the league.

And Happy St. Patrick's Day today Wednesday, March 17. I would imagine that the Irish will be or have been celebrating the day all week, since it occurs in the middle of a week! This year, due to COVID, you may have to celebrate at home.

Now football? Yes, a highlight of the upcoming season will be Ipswich vs. North Central on October 15, the last game of the regular season. They are both in the LRC as well — Ipswich, Class 9AA and the North Central Thunder in 9A. (Ipswich's non-league opponents will be Langford, Dupree and Herreid/Selby Area.)
