IHS Golfers win boys Regional competition, team heads to State B

 


Ipswich had some positive things happen at the Region 5B high school golf meet at the Broadland Creek golf course in Huron on May 24.

The IHS boys' team qualified for the State B intact, thanks to its first-place finish in the 5B team-score standings. The Tigers indeed combined for a winning 259 for a comfortable lead over runner-up Potter County's 276. (Ten teams were eligible for the boys' team standings.)

The individual medalist proved to be Tray Hettick of Selby Area with his 77 -- one stroke better than the runner-up from Ipswich, Chet Peterson with a 78. Luke Peterson was next in third at 79 and Matthew Jaenisch carded a 20th-place 102. Jace Konsor rounded out the effort with his 27th-place 105.

But only one girl qualified from Ipswich, Halie Feldman, who was seventh with a 105. Next was Ashton Loken in 16th at 121. (The top 15 girls made the cut.) Ipswich also utilized a 135 by Tarynn Kleffman for 22nd.

The girls' winner was Jayce Pugh of Miller with her 83. And Miller's collective 304 also topped Faulkton and Potter County which were tied for second in the girls' team standings at 313 apiece.

Matt Pollock, the IHS coach hopes to be in the boys’ hunt at the state event with their momentum from the regional.
