Lake Region Conference Tournament in Ipswich on Thursday

Brady Unser earned a first place win in his division in the Groton Tournament.

The Ipswich/Bowdle wrestlers competed on January 29 at the Groton Wrestling Tournament. 

Brady Unser won the 113 pound division, earning 24 team points.

Groton Area won the tourney with 169 points. Twelve teams participated in the event. The I/B wrestlers tied for eighth place, with 51 points.

Coach Todd Naasz said the tournament was an opportunity to wrestle some region opponents that we have not had the opportunity to see yet. "Brady had a great tournament, pinning all his opponents in the first period and taking first," he said.

The Ipswich/Bowdle wrestlers will host the Lake Region Conference Tournament on Feb. 3 in Ipswich starting at 6 p.m. I/B will compete with Warner/Northwestern and Faulkton for the LRC wrestling title. The I/B wrestlers will compete in a quadrangular in Warner on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.

Individual results in the Groton Tournament were:

113 - Brady Unser (first place) won by fall 4:25, won by fall 1:22, won by fall 2:00 (24 team points)

138 - Beau Schilling received a bye, was pinned 2:24, won by fall 2:04, won by fall 0:22, lost 12-7 (6 team points)

170 - Justin Rohrbach (third place) won by fall 1:38, was pinned 1:05, received a bye, won by decision 11-7 (12 points)

182 - Grant Weisser (third place) was pinned 1:07, won by fall 1:41, was pinned 3:27 (9 team points)

285 - Marcus Hofer was pinned 2:42, received a bye, was pinned 3:28
