Wolverines stop Tiger girls

February 2, 2022

Ipswich was not able to quite stay with the Herreid/ Selby girls last Friday in Selby, resulting in a 51-23 Tiger defeat.

But the first quarter was definitely close with the hosts owning a 12-11 lead at that juncture of the contest. They would however manufacture a 29-14 halftime lead, still leaving Ipswich within striking distance. But the Wolverines would slowly extend their third-quarter edge to 38-19 and then coasted their win.

H/SA received scoring from five different players led by Kendell Sawinsky with 18 points and Jennica Berens with 15 points. And Jada Rossow became their third double-digit scorer with 12 points.

Ipswich was led by Katie Bierman and Ashlyn Weig with five points each and each included a trey. Quincy Olivier and Gabby Wald each ended up with four points, followed by Karlie Gohl's trey for her three points. Kaylin Onken capped scoring with a basket.

Ipswich included those three treys among its nine accurate baskets and finished only 2-13 in free throw tries that night. The hosts connected on 22 of their floor shots including five treys and were 2-8 in free throw tries.

The Wolverines only committed seven turnovers; the Tigers, 17.

The Tigers would drop to 4-9 with that defeat and the IHS girls were next set to host league foe Leola/Frederick on February 1 in the Tiger Den. They will join the Tiger boys for a trip to Miller on February 3 and will return to host Aberdeen Christian in more league play on February 8, along with the Tiger boys.
