The winter sports playoffs are right around the corner and that could probably even be said for the college teams. Time flies, that is for sure! And don't forget the NFL's professional football action which has now boiled down to two remaining survivors headed for Sunday's Super Bowl showdown, the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.

But the weather can traditionally change back into winter when the high school post-season events are in progress. And as dry as it has lately been, let's just hope that we can avoid major grass fires, especially when it is windy. And this new year there have already been numerous windy days .

As I am writing this column your outdoor thermometers might actually inch past 50° above zero. So the meager precip. that we have gotten lately has mostly melted into puddles which then turn to instant ice over night. This time of the year especially when the weather is clear, it can still freeze over night. So don't put away your wind shield scrapers just yet!
