Ipswich swept the annual Lake Region Conference track and field meet last Tuesday in Ipswich.

The Tiger boys nearly doubled runners-up Warner 205 to 112.5. The girls were able to stave off the second-place girls' team from Northwestern 173 to 134.

Ipswich also won the boys middle-school and North Central the girls.

It was a beautiful day on a fast track. "What a great day to run a track and field meet," said head coach Todd Thorson."I would like to thank Dan Knust for organizing such a great meet."

Two conference records indeed fell and they both involved Ipswich thinclads. Colby Sylte won the long jump with a meet record 20-10.00 measurement. He was also one of the runners on their meet-record 4x100 relay team along with Carson Gohl, Trevor Heinz and Ty Kadlec in :43.92, also a school record.

Individually Kadlec finished first in the 100-meter dash in :10.97 where Sylte was second in :11.49. And Kadlec added another 200-meter dash victory in :22.79.

Carter Geditz captured a 110-meter hurdles win in :15.93 and was also first in the 300-meter hurdles event, clocked at :43.35.

Zach Geditz won the discus at 135-05 and was second in the shot put at 46-01.75.

The pole vault competition also provided a one-two outcome for Ipswich, won by Rasmus Loken at 9-09.00 and Brody Davis second at 9-03.00.

Two Tiger boys' relay teams placed second, the 4x800 at 9:01.01 ran by Turner Thorson, Ian Beyers, Trevor Beyers and Dylan Wald and the medley in 4:12.36 manned by Tyler Hettich, Heinz, Loken and Xavier Kadlec.

Meanwhile the IHS girls combined some individual and relay efforts to get to where they got in the team standings.

Marley Guthmiller won the 100-meter hurdles in :17.39 and topped the 300-meter hurdles as well in :50.67 and her winning pole vault was measured at 8-09.00. Quincy Olivier was second in that event at 8-09.00.

Gracie Lange would add a 15-01.25 long jump win and was second in the high jump at 4-09.00 as well as finishing second in the triple jump at 30-11.

Madyson Gellhaus was second in the 1600-meter run in 5:44.09.

The medley relay event would provide a second-place outcome in 4:57.26 ran by Reaghan Bowers, Josie Knutson, Kathryn Kilber and Ashlinn Hartwell.

"The varsity girls really competed hard all day long," Thorson said. "We had a couple of people that were dealing with injuries and the younger athletes really stepped up."

He said: "The boys really dominated the meet from the start. We now have 18 of the 19 events with performances in the top 24. We have never had this kind of depth since I have been here. We have at least two quality athletes in every event and in several of them we have four or five."

The Regionals are set for Thursday, May 19 in Gettysburg.
