READER'S COLUMN

As Ipswich is becoming quite favorably know for its civic pride, as evidenced by the arch over the Trail, the swimming pool and its trees, shrubs and well kept lawns, it seems to me that if they care to maintain that reputation there is nothing they could do that would merit more praise than to take some steps to provide for the care and protection of the cemetery.

As the state highway No. 45 passes it and many from a distance pass that way, I often wonder if when they see weeds growing everywhere, gates wide open and cattle and horses roaming at large over newly made graves, with some of the stones tipped off the bases.

If they don’t get the impression that we think more of show than of more curious things.

I am calling attention to this matter with the hope that it may provoke discussion that may lead to the making of some arrangement for organizing a society to look after the cemetery and employ a sexton. This can be done with but very little expense as many from away would be glad to contribute to that end.
