Lenny Joseph was born to Marvin and Lorraine (Scherr) Uhrich on May 20, 1958 in Hoven. He attended the one-room Montpelier Township School until third grade when the school closed, and he transferred to Roscoe Public School. The third of eight children, Lenny was responsible for feeding the livestock and helping with field work.

After graduating from Roscoe High School in 1976, he studied Production Agriculture and Agricultural Management at Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute in Watertown. He then returned to help on the family farm.

Lenny married LaMae Bieber of Bowdle on June 3, 1978. They continued to stay on the farm where they raised their three daughters, Maia, Genevieve, and Jessica. He remained at the farm until the time of his death.

In addition to farming, Lenny also worked as Edmunds County Weed & Pest Supervisor / Highway Superintendent for 27 years. In this capacity he served on several committees, was an active member of the SD Weed & Pest Association, and state president of the South Dakota Highway Superintendent Association. He was the current president of the Montpelier Township Weed & Pest Association.

Lenny was an avid fisherman and hunter who would never say "no" to an afternoon of pheasant or duck hunting. He and LaMae enjoyed fishing so much they went fishing in Canada for their honeymoon. Lenny created many memories for his children and grandchildren including hunting from the tree stand, shore fishing, fishing from the boat, and ice fishing.
