Charlotte was born December 25, 1930, in Leola to William and Annie (Heihn) Lapka. She attended grade school in Kota Township and graduated from Leola High School in 1948. She attended Northern State Teachers College and taught in rural schools for five years.

She married Arthur Schaub on November 25, 1952, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leola. They made their home on the farm northeast of Ipswich for 23 years and then in 1975 they moved to their current home near Ipswich. Together, they raised their family of five children.

Charlotte was a selfless and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (known as the "Cookie Grandma"), and friend. She was known for her beautiful smile, kind, humble demeanor, and sense of humor. She dedicated her life to her family and took great joy in planning and cooking meals, baking (homemade cinnamon rolls and coconut cream pie), gardening, canning, golfing, dancing, walking around her trees, and playing cards. She enjoyed her whist and bridge clubs and more recently her many games with friends and family playing "Words with Friends" on-line.

Charlotte was a devout Catholic and modeled an idyllic example of her faith through her daily rosary and prayers. She was a member of the St. Monica Study Club for 54 years where she made life-long friendships. She was a member of the Holy Cross Parish for 70 years where she participated in the Holy Cross Altar Society, and taught CCD to the children of Holy Cross Parish. She had great trust in the Lord as evidenced by one of her favorite sayings, "What will be will be".

Charlotte is survived by her four children, Marjorie (Scott) DiLorenzo of Omaha, Neb., Dr. Phyllis Schaub of Laguna Beach, Calif., Donna (Mark) Rath of Lakeville, Minn., Dave Schaub of Ipswich; daughter-in-law, Linda Schaub (Las Flores, Calif.); 11 grandchildren, Michael (Kathleen) DiLorenzo, Christopher (Ashley) DiLorenzo, Lauren DiLorenzo, Nicholas (Courtney) Grayden, Sarah (Jake) Essington, Katie Grayden, John Grayden, Jonathan (Jennifer) Rath, Matthew (Holly) Rath, Anna Rath, Austin Schaub; one step-grandchild, Brian Jones; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Arthur E. Schaub; son Arthur J. Schaub; parents, William and Annie Lapka; brother, LaVoid; sisters, Phyllis Burhenn and Lorraine Schense.
