Tigers get overtime win on the road with last second shot

Ipswich's girls basketball varsity team got an early present from Santa with a 48-46 OT victory on the road to face Waubay-Summit on December 20.

Ipswich would outscore its hosts 4-2 in the extra session. It was capped by a tip-in at the buzzer by Gabby Wald who would total 21 points that featured three treys. Another reason for the win was Quincy Olivier with 12 points and 12 rebounds for an impressive double-double.

The score was tied six times and the lead changed hands three different times.

But Ipswich would actually be out-scored 4-3 in the opening quarter and despite a Wald half-court basket at intermission the hosts would still lead 21-17.

They also led 36-31 with a quarter to play. But the Tigers would rally to even things at 44-44, thus necessitating the extra period.

Ipswich's remaining scoring would be led by Kaylin Onken with her seven points. Next would be Ashley Weig with four points and Brianna Geditz and Baylee Kulesa each with a basket from inside the trey arc.

The hosts and all scorers for that matter were led by Eva Beniki with 25 points and Faith Larson added 13 points.

Ipswich was 20-48 in floor shots including the three treys and 5-7 in free throws. Waubay-Summit finished with 18 total field goals and included seven three-point baskets. They were only 3-10 at the charity stripe, though.

Ipswich totaled 42 rebounds, led by Olivier's dozen. Next would be Onken with five retrieves. The hosts countered with only 29 rebounds, led by Benike's seven. Ipswich had 29 turnovers; W-S, 12. But Ipswich came away five steals led by Wald's three. The Tigers also dished out 14 assists paced by Olivier with five.
