The Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern Jr. Legion baseball team has earned a trip to the South Dakota 2023 Class "B" Junior American Legion Baseball State Championship Tournament that will be held at the Lennox Baseball Stadium, Lennox, Friday, August 4 - 6, 2023.
W.I.N. will meet Belle Fourche Post 32 in the second game on Friday. The tournament opens with Elk Point-Jefferson Post 134 playing Winner/Colume Post 169 at 10 a.m.
Friday afternoon Groton Post 39 will play Sious Falls Christian Post 911 followed by Martin Post 240 playing the hosts, Lennox Post 174.
The eight teams will compete in the double elimination State Tournament. All tournament games are seven innings, unless stopped by the 10-run rule.
The W.I.N. team goes into the tournament undefeated with a 12-0 record. They swept the northeast region defeating Sisseton on day one with a commanding score of 31-2.
Day two of the round-robin tournament found them facing Redfield with a final score of 10-1 and then Groton, which W.I.N. handily won 13-3.
Two Ipswich athletes are on the W.I.N. team: Garrison "Mac" Heinz, son of Garett and Amy Heinz, and Xavier "X" Kadlec, son of Nathan and Deidre Kadlec.
