She was born on June 1, 1931 at the family farm near Hosmer to Adam and Martha (Dabbert) Schumacher. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Verdella lived on the family farm until she married Alvin Stahlecker on April 23,1950. They then lived in Aberdeen. Verdella and Alvin were blessed with three sons and a daughter. The family relocated to Rapid City in June 1964. Verdella was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed her family. After raising her children, she worked for Rausch Moving and Storage for eight years. Her survivors include sons, Eric (Ellen) of Casper, Wyo., Darrell (Beth) of Hobbs, New Mexico, Monte (Denise) of Lubbock, Tex .; daughter, Deanna Nail of Del City, Okla .; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
