Funeral Service for Gerald Rohrbach will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at the UCC Congregational Church, 203 N. 4th Street, Ipswich. Pastor Tim Fugman will officiate the service.

Inurnment will be at Greenmound Cemetery, Leola at 1:30 PM.

Gerald Rohrbach was born on April 26, 1940, to Wilhelm and Magdalena (Schaeffer) Rohrbach in McPherson County near Long Lake. He was baptized on July 21, 1940, at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola and was confirmed in 1955. He attended rural school, Wacker #1, and graduated from the 8th grade.

After his graduation, Gerald continued to work on the family farm until 1963. He then worked for various area farmers, and for Emil Glaesman at Ashley, N.D. moving houses, barns, etc. Gerald also worked at the Long Lake Meat Market, and following that he worked 24 years for the McPherson County Highway Department.

Gerald's hobbies included hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening, and feeding and watching birds. He was proud of his butchering and sausage making abilities, as well. He made the best sausage around. He also enjoyed being with friends, telling stories, joking around, polka music and attending dances.

Gerald passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen at the age of 83.

Grateful to have shared his life are his siblings, two brothers, Gary (Barbara) Rohrbach of Eureka, Calif. and Eugene (Betty Gibson) Rohrbach, Oriska, N.D.; two sisters, Arlene (Hank) Botkin of Medford, Ore. and Shirley Schumacher-Thurn of Ashley, N.D.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; brothers (Herbert, Arthur, Reuben, Paul, Wilbert, Allen, and Alvin); two sisters (Ellatina and Donna Mae); and several siblings who died in infancy and childhood.

The Rohrbach family thanks Gerald's good friend and urn bearer, Tim Beck, for his friendship and support. Also, thank you to his honorary urn bearers, his good friend, Christ Kentizer, nephew, and Shannon Morrison-Johnson, good friend.

Schriver Funeral Home, 720 6th St N, Ipswich, is in charge of arrangements.
