Mildred Preszler

Mildred B. Preszler, 90, died Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor of Aberdeen. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2023 at Aldersgate Church, Aberdeen, led by Pastor Mike Waldrop. Interment is 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer.

Visitation commences at 5 p.m. Thursday at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service.

Mildred Bernice Schumacher, daughter of Emma (Graf) and Gottlieb Schumacher, was born eight miles southeast of Hosmer on June 28, 1933. She received her formal education at Sangamon Township Rural School. Following her schooling, she stayed to help at home. Mildred married Alvin Preszler at a rural Hosmer Lutheran Church on November 21, 1954. For one year they lived in Aberdeen where Mildred hired out as a housekeeper. Alvin began a two-year enlistment in the Army and the couple lived in Salinas, Calif. and Las Vegas. Upon Alvin's discharge in 1958, they purchased a farm four miles east and one mile south of Hosmer. Beginning in 1990, Mildred began an 18-year employment as a housekeeper at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. In 2010, Alvin and Mildred relocated to Eureka. Since April 2016, they lived in Aberdeen.

While in Hosmer, Mildred was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She then joined the Eureka United Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir. More recently, she was a member of Aldersgate Church in Aberdeen. Her hobbies included crocheting and reading.

Mildred is survived by Alvin, her husband of nearly 69 years; one son, Kim (Shirley) Preszler of Hosmer; two daughters, Connie (Neal) Woehlhaff of Eureka and Debra Larson of Aberdeen; three brothers, Ivan (Arvella) Schumacher of Hosmer, and Leo (Ardella) Schumacher and Robert Schumacher of Aberdeen; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gottlieb, on November 10, 1970; her mother, Emma, on July 25, 1993; four brothers (Marvin, Herbert, Lawrence, and Delbert); two sisters (Darlene Kramlich and Viola Winkler); and a son-in-law (Bob Larson).

Casketbearers will be Chandler Preszler of Roscoe, Shaun Preszler of Sioux Falls, Mason Preszler of Hosmer, Raph Duncan and Matt Barber of Aberdeen, and Corey Kauk of Elk River, Minn.

Musicians will be Wes Schaible, Joyce Heyne, and Julie Ford.
