Rev. Timothy Fugman

The memorial service for Rev. Timothy Fugman, 77, of Frederick, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street, Aberdeen with Pastor Mike Kampa officiating. Military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24.

Tim passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Tim was born on June 26, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash. to Alvin G. and Leota V. (Novak) Fugman. He lived his younger years in Rapid City, later moving to Yankton, graduating from YHS in 1964. He joined the US Army and served in Germany for three years as a mechanic. Tim received an Honorable Discharge and went on to attend and graduate from USD-Vermillion with a double major in Math and Computer.

Tim married Donanne Mangold on July 15, 1972, in Yankton. In 1974, they moved to Aberdeen, where three children were born to this union. He worked for the S.D. Department of Labor for five years and then the Aberdeen American News for six years in the Data Processing departments.

Tim's decision to become an ordained minister started at a retreat when he realized he could no longer ignore God's calling to him. He packed up his young family and moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he attended North American Baptist Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity degree. His first called church was to St. Paul's UCC in Eureka, SD. After that he served Aberdeen Plymouth Cong. UCC and then Redfield 1st Cong. UCC, where he served for 20 years. Following his retirement in 2015, Tim continued to fill pulpits in smaller UCC churches in the northeast region of SD (Brentford, Columbia and Ipswich).

Interests and passions of Tim's were any youth sports or youth group activities. He spent several years counseling or leading camps at his beloved Placerville UCC Church Camp outside of Rapid City. He also snuck in a little fly fishing in Rapid Creek when he could. His favorite parts of his worship services were the Children's Message and Baptisms. He loved those kids.

Tim was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan (SKOL), even when they lost. He spent several years as a Boy Scout leader which then led him to receive the Silver Beaver Award. He loved gardening, feeding all kinds of birds in the back yard, working outside (in good weather) and creating furniture from used wood pallets. Tim also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He will be remembered through his homemade furniture, enjoyment of dad jokes, and the love he has shown us all over the years.

Grateful for having shared Tim's life are his wife, Donanne Fugman; children, Michelle (Brett) Dinger, Jennifer Fugman (Brian "Butch" Jones), Christopher (RaNette) Fugman; grandchildren, Abby (Tyler) Moffenbier, Shaine Dinger (Sammy Gomez), Brody Dinger, Michael Fugman (Sarren Godfrey), Emma Fugman and Marcus Fugman; great-grandchildren, TJ and Sawyer; sister, Peggy (Greg) Wittmeier; sister-in-law, Mary (Mike) Zwemke; brother-in-law, Dr. David Mangold, several nieces and nephews.

Preceeding Tim in death are his parents, Alvin and Leota Fugman.
