Ipswich topped Highmore-Harrold 67-57 in a non-conference boys' high school basket encounter last Saturday in Highmore.

The Tigers had to rally from a 21-14 first-quarter deficit, but got the job done. They closed to within a point, 25-24 at intermission and utilized an outstanding 23-12 scoring edge in the third quarter for a 47-37 margin with a quarter to play and that same advantage would stand up in the final stanza. The bottom line was that they were able to dominate the two middle quarters.

Ipswich's largest lead was by 13 early in the final quarter. There were three ties and seven lead changes.

Ipswich got balanced scoring, led by Ty Kadlec's game-high 24 points and Josh McQuarie was next with 16 points. They both included two treys. Yet another double-figure scorer that day proved to be Eric Severson with exactly 10 points. Matt Hettich nearly attained that status with nine points with one trey. Taylor Thorson was right behind Hettich with eight points to cap the IHS score sheet.

The hosts were led by Remington Paynter with 22 points, followed by Trey Knox with 10 points. Five additional Pirates would score their remaining 25 points.

Ipswich finished with 22 baskets that included those five treys and was 18-23 in free throw opportunities. Not bad at all! The hosts made 21 floor shots with six treys and were an even warmer 9-11 at the charity stripe.

The rebounding war was won by the Pirates 41-36, despite 10 rebounds by Thorson and seven from Kadlec. Ipswich sustained 14 turnover; H-H, 20 and 14 of theirs were forced by Tiger steals, led by Kadlec's nine thefts. As you can see he wasn't all that far away from a triple-double.

The Tigers are to next host Miller on February 4 in a girls/boys twinbill in the Tiger Den. The boys' record improved to 10-4 after their victory over Highmore-Harrold.
