Ipswich thinclads compete in Mobridge

April 14, 2021

It was a good day to be a Tiger at a high school track and field invitational hosted by Mobridge-Pollock last Thursday in Mobridge. How so? The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers swept both the girls and boys team standings, followed by Ipswich in second place in both divisions.

That's right! The host Tiger girls edged Ipswich 146.5 to 126, while the M-P Tiger boys claimed a 154.5 to 123.5 team score edge over their Ipswich counterparts.

The Ipswich girls obtained a pair of individual event wins, as well as two relay victories. Katelyn Geditz won the discus spin at 89-01, as did Gracie Lange in the high jump at 4-10 and Paige Mehlberg was second in that outcome at 4-10, as well.

Ipswich topped the 4x800 relay in 11:30.18 that was run by Emily DeRaad, Madisyn Gellhaus, Hailey Bierman and Ashley Ptacek. The IHS Tiger girls also claimed a medley relay win in 4:49.49. It featured Halle Heinz, Paige Mehlberg, Ashley Ptacek and Emily DeRaad.

Some additional runners-up efforts helped improve the Ipswich girls team total, including a second-place finish in the 4x400 in 4:38.15, (Emily DeRaad, Ashley Ptacek, Hailey Bierman and Paige Mehlberg). Baylee Kulesa added a second in the 3200-meter run at 15:09.13.

Now for the boys! Ipswich indeed won a pair of boys' sprint relays, the 4x100 and the 4x200. The shorter race featured Dylan Owens, Matthew Hettich, Carson Gohl and Ty Kadlec in 46.1 and they also teamed up to capture the longer relay in 1:35.8.

Josh McQuarie also claimed a first-place finish in the high jump at 5-08.00.

Once again second-place finishes were quite helpful for Ipswich that day.

Tyler Hettich, Gohl, Matthew Hettich and Maxwell Kulesa placed second in the medley relay at 4:07.95.

Kadlec was second in the 100-meter dash at 11.6, as well as second in the 200-meter dash clocked at 23.6. McQuarie finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.2. Severson was also second in the boys' discus competition measured at 121-03.

Ipswich was scheduled to attend a meet in Groton on Tuesday, April 13, as well as a Gettysburg event on April 17.
