Ipswich had a busy day at the Region 2B high school school track and field meet in Gettysburg last Thursday. The Tiger boys indeed overwhelmed second-place Potter County 213.5 to 85 with North Central narrowly in third at 84.5. Though the host team countered with a 158.5 to 140 girls' team championship victory over runner-up Ipswich, that still left the IHS thinclads with a healthy lead in the combined girls/boys team-point results.

The Tigers boys displayed their depth in both track and field events! Eric Severson won the discus at 142-02, where Zach Geditz was second at 139-07. Then in the shot put Lucas Roland was second at 41-07.00. Tyler Hettich was first in the high jump at 5-10.00, followed closely by Josh McQuarie, second at 5-06.00. Ipswich also featured a long jump win by Carson Gohl at 20-02.00. And how about the pole vault? The Tigers nearly dominated that event, led by Darrel Yost first at 9-03.00 and Rasmus Loken's second at 9-03.00.

That track? Ty Kadlec topped the 100-meter dash finals at :11.35. He was also second in the 200 at :23.01. McQuarie had an impressive day there with a 110-meter high hurdles win in :16.04 and a second-place outcome in the low hurdles at :46.57.

Their 4x100-meter relay team won it in :45.65, featuring Dylan Owens, Gohl, Matthew Hettich and Kadlec. That same foursome would also claim victory in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:34.88.

The girls' top efforts happened in field events. Gracie Lange and Paige Mehlberg were tied for second in the high-jump finals at 4-09.00 and Lange also captured a second in the long jump, measured at 15-10.25. Quincy Olivier was able to finish second in the pole vault with a 8-06.00 height.

The State B will be held both days in Rapid City on May 28-29 at the SDSMT O'Hara Stadium. This year there will be a new format where all the state event qualifiers are narrowed down to a list of Top 24 that have been compiled beginning throughout the regular season that also included the regionals.
