Yes, it is that time of the year! It's the fall sports season, which features all that South Dakota Friday night high school football drama, culminating with the post-season playoffs and a possible trip to the Dome for the various state championships.

Ipswich/Edmunds Central got fairly deep into the 9A playoffs last year as a co-op, but this season Ipswich will be going it alone, while moving up into the 9AA ranks.

But a strong nucleus from that team will be returning this year, hoping to do some damage. The Tiger roster currently contains 22 total players, only four of which are freshmen. "We will return a lot of experience in our junior and senior classes," said head coach Brian Hogie. He says that there are a total of 15 returning letter winners on this year's roster.

The Tiger seniors are Ty Kadlec, Matthew Jaenisch, Carson Gohl, Trevor Beyers, Jordan Nierman, Luke Peterson and Zach Geditz. The juniors providing additional upper-class leadership will be Tyler Hettich, Colby Sylte, Grant Weisser, Darrel Yost, Ian Beyers, Carter Geditz and Lucas Rowland.

The sophomore class furnishes Trevor Heinz, Chet Peterson, Adam Kanable and Kadyn Weisser, while that quartet of freshman newcomers includes Max Kulesa, Rasmus Loken, Marcus Hofer and Justin Rohrbach.

The Tigers will open their 2021 campaign on the road vs. Langford Area on August 20 which will also kick off their Lake Region Conference schedule. Their home opener will be on August 27 hosting non-conference foe Dupree. (Their additional non-conference opponent will be Herreid/Selby Area on September 24 in Ipswich.) Homecoming football action is Sept. 17 versus Warner.

The first round of the play-offs will be on October 21. The quarter-final round is scheduled for October 28 with the semi-final round set for November 5. And the state championships in all the classes will be November 11-13 in Vermillion.

Coaches assisting Hogie are Matt Pollock and Tyler Severson.
