Ipswich obtained a huge Lake Region Conference high school football win over Leola/Frederick Area last Friday in Leola by a final margin of 62-20.

The game was indeed somewhat closer than that final score would indicate as the two league rivals had traded early blows.

Ipswich had jumped ahead with a 30-yard TD run by Carson Gohl and Ian Beyers passed to Matthew Jaenisch for the PAT points. But the Titans matched that with their own 49-yard TD carry by Hans Lapka, followed by a Jericho King PAT carry still in the first quarter. Lapka would later burst free for a 36-yard scoring scamper, which would put L-F ahead 14-8. But Ty Kadlec would answer that with a 30-yard TD pass reception from Ian Beyers followed by a Luke Peterson PAT run that would elevate the Tigers into a 16-14 lead. However, Lapka would dent the end-line for his third TD run of the night (this one from only three yards out) and his team would briefly lead 20-16.

That's because both the Ipswich defense and offense would shift into another gear and then some! Tyler Hettich would score from seven yards out and Gohl would get his third TD run of the evening that covered three yards and Ian Beyers kept for those PAT points. He would also find Ty Kadlec for an aerial TD play that would cover 70 yards. Hettich added a PAT run, as well as a three-yard TD carry that was followed by a Jaenisch pass reception from Ian Beyers for the two-point conversion.

Colby Sylte would put the icing on the cake with a pair of 10-yard scoring carries. Daryl Yost and Chet Peterson would add the two respective PAT conversions.

Unofficially Ipswich utilized a balanced offensive attack that featured 199 ground yards and 213 more through the air, all from Ian Beyers' 10-15-0 evening. His leading receiver was Kadlec with six catches for 63 yards, while Gohl led the ground attack with a 95-yard evening. It included those two touchdown carries. And Hettich wasn't far behind with 71 rushing yards.

The hosts responded with 196 rushing yards that obviously featured those three touchdowns from Lapka among his 133 total rushing yards. Through the air they were held to 96 yards on a 3-8-0 evening from Brayden Sumption. Vincent Petrich became their leading receiver with a 2-66 night.

Ipswich collected 12 first downs on its way to its victory.

Defensively, Ipswich would unofficially obtain 11 tackles from Hettich and Kadlec and Zach Geditz each added nine. The hosts were led by Wil Nordine's 11 tackles.

The Tigers improved to 6-1 overall and put themselves into the LRC drivers' seat with one remaining conference game left on their regular-season schedule, hosting North Central on Friday, Oct. 15 in Ipswich.
