The State B Cross Country meet took place last Saturday, Oct. 23, in Sioux Falls.

The boys' team winner, sweeping our region and the state was, as you might predict, Miller dropping down to Class B this year. (Although the Miller girls didn't fare quite as well.) The Miller boys topped Northwestern 25 to 48 as a team. Freeman Academy/Marion was third and Philip was fourth in the boys' standings.

The girls' B was won by Kimball/White Lake over Potter County 26 to 29. Ipswich was fourth in the girls' team outcome at 45 just behind third-place Aberdeen Christian with 44.

Individually Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern was first in 19:39.44 and Autumn Baker of Kimball/WL was second in 19:41.58.

The top boys' runner proved to be Lane Krautschun of Bison in 16:35.82. The runner-up was Josiah Schroeder of Canistota in 16:53.81.

There were a total of 116 boys and 115 girls there Saturday in the B competition.

Ipswich featured five girls and five boys to complete their teams.

Madisyn Gellhaus (706) in the State B Girls race in Sioux Falls.

The top IHS girl that day would be Madisyn Gellhaus in sixth at 20:03.11, while Gracyn Kadlec also medaled with her 19th-place outcome, 20:50.37. Ashlinn Hartwell was their third scorer at 31st in 21:22.51. Gabrielle Wald was 55th at 22:10.63 and Ava Davis was 111th in 25:38.36.

The top Tiger boy would be Dylan Wald, medaling at 25th in 18:08.95. Xavier Kadlec was 31st in 18:31.30. Turner Thorson was 65th in 19:21.57 and Taylor Thorson, 68th in 19:25.76. Clayton Horst completed their effort with his 22:17.77 clocking (110th place). That added up to a eighth place finish for the IHS boys' team.

Ipswich had three seniors on the roster - Chloe Jager and Makala DeRaad for the girls and Taylor Thorson for the boys, so the programs coached by Todd Thorson are relatively youthful.
