Big Bo Classic - IHS Boys stop Wall Eagles 68-33

January 5, 2022

The Ipswich boys basketball program made an impression in more ways than one during last Thursday's Big Bo Classic hosted by Wolsey-Wessington. First of all the Tigers manufactured a rather convincing 68-33 victory over the Wall Eagles.

The other ways? "Yes. Taylor (Thorson) got the Sportsmanship Award and Ty (Kadlec) won a Scholarship," explained head coach Tyler Severson.

Meanwhile Wall jumped out to an early 3-0 lead which would prove to be one of their biggest of the day. Trevor Beyers got Ipswich on the scoreboard with a deuce and then answered Wall's basket with a trey, the first of 11 Tiger three-balls that afternoon. It also jump-started a 13-point run to produce Ipswich's initial double-figure lead, 15-5. (It was capped by an Ian Beyers trey.)

Ipswich would then comfortably lead 22-7 after a quarter and 34-16 at halftime. The Tigers' advantage ballooned to 51-25 with a quarter to play and the Tigers were able to coast to their impressive victory.

They landed eight players into their scoring column, led by Trevor Beyers' game-high 18 points which featured four treys. Next was Taylor Thorson also in double-figures with 11 points. Ian Beyers would also climb the double-figure scoring plateau with his 10 points that included a pair of treys. Jace Konsor was nearly in double-figures, thanks to a trio of triplets. Kadlec would finish with seven points including a trey and eight of Ipswich's 23 assists. And Luke Peterson added Ipswich's remaining trey on the way to his five-point game. Carson Gohl added four points, as did Carter Geditz.

The Eagles were led by Cayne Krogman's 11 points with four additional players scoring.

Ipswich made 26 floor shots, that obviously featured those 11 treys and went five of nine in free throws. The Eagles were 13 of 36 in floor shooting with only two of them being treys. They were a warmer seven of nine in their trips to the charity stripe.

Ipswich fueled its win with 27 rebounds with a balanced effort, led by Taylor Thorson and Gohl with six boards apiece. The Eagles would total 29 rebounds paced by Reid Hansen's nine retrieves. Ipswich only sustained 13 turnovers; Wall, 24 that included 14 Tiger steals. Trevor Beyers and Kadlec led with three thefts apiece.

Ipswich was scheduled to host Northwestern on Jan. 4, in boys' only league play, that was postponed due to the weather (TBA). The boys and girls would play a doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 6 in Warner and the Tiger boys were to then travel to Sully Buttes on January 11.
