Tigers stop Wildcats in home court action

Ipswich methodically defeated Northwestern Area 55-41 in a boys' high school make-up game last Saturday, Jan. 8 in the Tiger Den.

The Tigers would slowly but surely build up a 20-point late lead, 55-35 thanks to a Taylor Thorson drive. But the visitors would score the final six points of the game with back-to-back treys.

Ipswich had led 15-6 after a quarter and 27-15 at intermission created by a Carter Geditz basket from within the trey arc. The Wildcats weren't quite ready to board their bus in the cold evening, though, so made a third-quarter run on the Tigers, capped by a trey to close to within six points, 36-30, with a quarter to play. But Thorson would open the final stanza with a trey of his own to interrupt the Wildcats' momentum.

Ipswich obtained a game-high 17 points from Ian Beyers that included a trio of treys. His brother Trevor Beyers added 15 points including a pair of treys and Thorson would also finish in double-figures with 11 points that featured that timely trey. Ty Kadlec scored eight points followed by Carter Geditz and Zach Geditz with a basket apiece.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats were led by Jude Ortmeier's 15 points, including two treys. But further scoring tapered off to seven points by Quintin Fischbach that also featured two treys. Seven more Wildcats would enter that scoring column. They totaled 14 floor shots that would include six treys and were 7-12 in free throw attempts. Ipswich countered with 24 accurate baskets which included a total of six treys and a 1-4 free throw effort.

Ipswich collected 19 rebounds with a balanced effort led by Carson Gohl with four retrieves. Northwestern grabbed 24 total rebounds paced by Ortmeier with six boards. The Tigers had 16 turnovers; Northwestern, 23. The Tigers included 14 steals in the Wildcats' total turnovers, led by Trevor Beyers with four thefts. The Tigers also utilized 20 assists, led by Kadlec with seven.

The Tiger boys were next scheduled to travel to Sully Buttes on Jan. 11 and will host Wilmot on Jan. 14. They would join the IHS girls for a twinbill visit to Roscoe vs. the North Central Thunder on January 18.

The IHS boys' record improved to 4-2 with their victory over the Wildcats.
