against Highmore-Harrold

Ipswich did a lot of things right during the fourth quarter to carve out a 50-37 boys' varsity basketball win over a solid Highmore-Harrold Pirates team last Saturday in the Tiger Den. Especially late in that quarter. Leading 42-37, Ipswich got a trey from Ty Kadlec, two free throws from Ian Beyers, plus four straight free throws from Kadlec - all six accurate free throw opportunities without a miss.

Ipswich started slowly and needed to rally from an early 9-2 which the Tigers would definitely do. But they still trailed 11-9 at the first break and would face a two-point deficit at the half, 19-17. But Ipswich would obtain a 30-28 advantage, thanks to a Carter Geditz buzzer-beater with a quarter to play. And you all know what would occur in that quarter.

Ipswich got some needed balanced scoring that afternoon paced by Ian Beyers with 19 point including four treys. Next was Kadlec with 13 points that featured a trey and six free throws. Taylor Thorson also got into double-figures that day with his 10 points. Next would be Carter Geditz with four points and Trevor Heinz with three points on an accurate trey attempt. Trevor Beyers rounded out scoring with a free throw.

The visitors had seven different scorers led by Treyton Knox with 10 points. They were 16-44 in floor shots that featured four treys and were 1-5 in free throw chances. Ipswich also countered with 16 baskets of which six were from beyond the trey arc and were a warmer 12-22 in free throw attempts.

Ipswich obtained 29 rebounds, led by Thorson with 11 for yet another double-double. The visiting team recorded 31 rebounds, led by Trake Cowen with seven.

Ipswich had only nine turnovers; the Pirate, 10 in a well played floor game by both schools. Ipswich had six steals, led by Ian Beyers and Taylor Thorson with two thefts apiece.

Ipswich improved to 9-4 at that juncture of their season.

They're to travel to Miller for a girl/boys twinbill on February 3 and will also join the Tiger girls for a February 8 showdown vs. Aberdeen Christian in the Tiger Den.

against Herreid/Selby Area

The Ipswich Tiger boys traveled to Selby on January 28 to face Region 2B foe Herreid/Selby Area and the Tigers would return home with a convincing 41-30 win.

Ipswich edged its hosts 9-7 in the first quarter and then led 24-13 at intermission. Their largest lead of the third quarter would be from a Ty Kadlec basket putting the Tigers up 34-20. They would then lead 34-22 with a quarter to play after a Wolverine quarter-ending basket. And the Wolverines would narrowly lead the final quarter 8-7, not nearly enough to stage a successful late rally.

Ipswich would finish with eight different scorers, led by Taylor Thorson's 10 points and Ian Beyers was next with nine points on a trio of treys. (One of them opened Ipswich's scoring, trailing 1-0.) Trevor Beyers was next with eight points and he included a trey. Kadlec added four points as did Carter Geditz and Carson Gohl, Trevor Heinz and Zach Geditz each contributed a basket from within the trey arc.

The Wolverines were led by Brenden Begeman with nine points and Tray Hettick with his eight points. Only three other Wolverines managed to score.

Ipswich shot 18-53 from the floor including those four treys and finished with one free throw in four tries. The Wolverines were 11-39 in floor shots which included two treys and were 6-13 in free throws.

The Tigers enjoyed an impressive 41-25 reboundingedge, led by Thorson's 11 for a double-double in anybody's book. Next was Kadlec with seven retrieves. Chance Gregg led his team with 14 rebounds.

Ipswich committed 15 turnovers; H-SA, 14. Ipswich had eight steals, though, led by Thorson, Trevor Beyers and Kadlec with two thefts each.
