Ipswich girls get win at Warner Classic

The Ipswich girls showed up to play during the annual Warner Classic on Feb. 12. The Tigers indeed rolled over the Flandreau Indian School 68-28.

The Tigers would own the four individual quarters. The Tiger girls would lead 17-8 after a quarter and stretch that to 42-22 at intermission. The Tiger girls would enjoy an even more dominant lead, 63-24, with a quarter to play and narrowly won the fourth quarter 5-4.

The scoring chores were led by Katie Bierman with 22 points including three treys. Three Tigers added 10 points apiece — Ashlyn Weig with one trey, Quincy Olivier and Rylee Kleffman who included two treys. Gabby Wald scored five points, Baylee Kulesa four points and Kaylin Onken three points. Brianna Geditz and Reaghan Bowers each added a deuce.

The Flandreau based school had five scorers that afternoon, led by Erika Bien with 12 points.

Ipswich shot 28-60 from the floor, six of which were treys. The Tigers were 6-13 in free-throw tries.

Their FIS opponents made 10 baskets with five of them treys and were only 3-11 in their free throw opportunities.

Ipswich won the board battle 43-22 and Bierman led with six rebounds.

The turnover situation found IHS with 11 miscues and FIS, 12, all by Tiger steals. That phase of the game was led by Olivier with five steals. The opponents collected seven steals.

Ipswich strung together 24 assists led by Weig with six assists, followed by Bierman with five.

The IHS girls were scheduled to play Highmore-Harrold there on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The boys and girls will host Potter County on Thursday, Feb. 17.

Region 2B Tournament play begins Monday, Feb. 21, continuing on Feb. 22 and 24. Pairings are not available at press time until this week’s regular season games are complete.
