Tigers battle Wolves at home

Ty Kadlec in boys basketball action in Ipswich Saturday when IHS hosted the Wilmot Wolves.

Ipswich won a rescheduled boys non-conference varsity basketball outcome 58-45 Saturday, Feb. 12 in the Tiger Den against Wilmot.

The Tigers owned a narrow 11-10 first-quarter edge over the Wolves, but exploded to a lot more comfortable 32-19 half-time edge. Their first double-figure lead would be 25-13, thanks to a Trevor Beyers trey.

Ipswich would lead 43-33 with a quarter to go, getting outscored 14-11 in the third stanza.

But the Tigers got their mojo going again in the final quarter and were even able to get their bench some playing experience late in the contest.

Ipswich featured three double-digit scorers led by Ian Beyers with 17 points including three treys. Taylor Thorson was next with 14 points, followed by Trevor Beyers with 11 points including a trio of treys, as well.

Ipswich received six points from Trevor Heinz with two treys. Carson Gohl netted three points. Ty Kadlec, Carter Geditz and Zach Geditz added two points apiece. Turner Thorson added a lone free-throw.

Ipswich limited Wilmot to only six scorers, led by Trey Jurgens with 21 points and Dennis Creadon with 12 counters.

Ipswich made 21 baskets that would definitely include those eight three-balls. The Tigers were also 8-11 in free-throw attempts.

The Wolves were 14-38 from the floor with three treys and went 14-21 at the free-three stripe.

Ipswich obtained 30 rebounds; Wilmot, 26. Ipswich was led by Taylor Thorson with five boards in a balanced team effort. The Tigers made 12 turnovers; the Wolves 20. Ipswich had 16 steals led by Trevor Beyers and Kadlec with four apiece.

Ipswich dished out 12 assists led by Kadlec with six assists.

The IHS boys hosted Hitchcock-Tulare on Feb. 15. The boys and girls will meet Potter County at home on Feb. 17. The boys will play in the Warner Classic on Saturday, Feb. 19 against Florence-Henry at 2 p.m.
